On first seeing this great photograph taken by Libyan doctor Prashant Bhatt of childrens’ shadows in Khadra forest Tripoli, It immediately reminded of and deeply resonated with, the ultimate sacrifice made by thousands of brave young Libyan men during 2011 in taking their defiant stand against the nation’s longstanding brutally repressive and heavily armed dictatorship.
The shadows of the children, one in triumphant pose I felt worked on two levels; that of martyrdom ( representing those no longer with us except in spirit and now in a bright and victorious afterlife state ).. and that of all Libyan children, having been won their freedom to openly express opinions and fulfill their future potential in all spheres of life. – M.
